Acid Reflux/Heartburn Care in Dallas
Instead, The Gut Goddess Gabrielle Grandell can help you correct the underlying cause of the problem!
What Is Acid Reflux?
Acid reflux can be felt anywhere from the stomach up through the esophagus and is caused when stomach acid and food comes back up. Many things can impact this condition, including foods like fried or spicy foods, tomato-based foods, citrus, processed foods, alcohol, and caffeine. For people with food sensitivities, foods like dairy and gluten can often cause reflux.
Lifestyle factors can also contribute—things like smoking, eating when you’re already full, eating right before bed, and being overweight interfere with the normal function of your gut. In addition, chronic stress affects the nerves in your stomach, making it difficult to process the food properly.
How I Can Help
Ideally, I like to start with a comprehensive stool test, test for nutrient levels and a conversation about diet and lifestyle to determine what’s causing your heartburn. For many people, eliminating things like dairy and gluten can help. If chronic stress is an issue, you may be deficient in magnesium, which is required for proper digestion.
Testing will also indicate the presence of any bacterial infection, such as H. pylori, which is very common and can lead to stomach ulcers, GERD, and gastritis.
Based on the results of your tests and our conversation, I will make lifestyle, diet, and supplementation recommendations to help correct your reflux. More severe issues may require a visit to a gastroenterologist for an endoscopy, but I believe in taking the least invasive approach first.
Often one of my first priorities is to get you off acid-blocking drugs that can lead to vitamin and mineral deficiencies, bacterial dybiosis and impaired digestive function when used long-term.
